Italy won the men’s 4×100 meters relay gold at the Tokyo Olympics on Friday. England took the silver while Canada got the bronze decoration.
Italy has shockingly won the men’s 4×100-meter relat to give Marcell Jacobs his second gold award of the Tokyo Games.
Jacobs won the men’s 100-meter title last Sunday in the main Olympics in the post-Usain Bolt time and was essential for the group that won the run hand-off in a public record of 37.50 seconds.
The Italians edged Britain by 0.01 and Canada took bronze in 37.70. It was Italy’s first Olympic decoration in the hand-off since a bronze at the 1948 London Olympics.
It was another public record for Italy who won the one-lap transfer run in 37.50 seconds.
Mitchell-Blake was gutted to miss out toward the end for Britain, who had won the occasion by a similar edge in 2004 against the United States.
Canada didn’t seem to be in the retribution for a decoration at the turn, however a splendid run by new 200m hero Andre de Grasse fixed the bronze award for them.
